Carnatic Vocal - Sowmya S - Rama Seva Mandali - Bangalore 2011

It has been my dream for quite sometime writing reviews on carnatic concerts. But long way to go. I am just a novice and just started identifying ragas.

I am just posting the songs Sowmya Madam, sang today.

1) She stared with "Sarasuda" varnam Saveri.

2) Next came "pAhimAm shrI rAjarAjEshvari krpAkari shankari", raagam jana ranjani.

3) Brilliant Subha Pantuvarali followed. Sahityam was "Ennalu urage".

4) Then came my all time favorite "Rama Bakthi Samrajyam" Suddha Bangala.

5) Them came Mohana. My Mom identified the raaga as Sowmya started few phrases.
Song was Intha Prabhuva Kaaneno.

6) Fast paced "Kannatandri na pai" Devamonohari followed.

7) The Main song was "Koluvai" and what a bhairavi it was from the artist. Complicated niravals sung by Sowmya and the violin artist B U Ganesh prasad followed with same precision.

8) Then she sang Muthukanana, I am not able to find the raagam.

9) Bhavayami Gopolam followed, reminded me MS Amma youtube audio I listened long back.

10) Next came Muddugare yashoda in raagam Kuruji. I wonder this raga has any relation with Janjuti?

11) Final Item was "rāma nāmaṃ bhajarē mānasa" in Madyamavathi. The artist concluded the concert with traditional pavamana mangalam.

Mahaganapathim - Maharajapuram Santhanam

This is the song that made me so fascinated with carnatic music. This is in raag nattai and is on Lord Vinayaka. In Indian culture, people start any work by doing pooja (prayer) to Lord Vinayaka.

So I am starting my blog by posting this song that offers prayer to lord vinayaka.

The raaga Nattai is mostly sung first in a carnatic concert. This raga gives me fresh energy, briskness and a positive mind set. I always hear it, before I start my day.
